What is Generators Set?

A Generators Set is a complete set of mechanical equipment that converts other forms of energy into electrical energy. It consists of a power system, a control system, a silencer system, a shock absorption system, and an exhaust system. It is composed of water turbines, steam turbines, diesel engines or others. Power mechanical drive is used to convert the energy generated by water flow, air flow, fuel combustion or nuclear fission into mechanical energy and transmit it to the generator, which is then converted into electrical energy and output to electrical equipment for use.

Working principle of a generator set

Take the diesel generator set as an example, by rapidly increasing the temperature, the ignition point of diesel is reached. The diesel is ignited, the mixed gas burns violently, and its volume expands rapidly, pushing the piston down, which is called ‘work’. Each cylinder performs work in a certain order, and the thrust acting on the piston becomes the force that pushes the crankshaft to rotate through the connecting rod, thereby driving the crankshaft to rotate. Using the principle of ‘electromagnetic induction’, the generator will output an induced electromotive force, and a current can be generated through a closed load loop.

Structure of the generator set

The generator set consists of an engine (providing kinetic energy), a generator (generating electric current), and a control system.

Classification

According to power sources, generator sets can be divided into the following categories: diesel generator sets, gas generator sets, gasoline generator sets, wind generator sets, solar generator sets, hydroelectric generator sets, coal-fired generator sets.
